Around 240 kms from Kolkata , its a sweet 6 hours drive .
The drive in itself is a stress buster , if you like driving that is .
The drive on the NH19 to Raniganj is lovely .
The drive from Raniganj to Santuri Police Station is a little crowded but then again if you love change , it is a different environment , a different town with its own vibes , and hence fun .
And then that drive from the Santuri Police Station to Baranti is a heart-warmer , driving through quaint village roads and unseen terrains .
Then again , if driving is your thing .
Or enjoying novel experiences.
AT BARANTI …
Laze around the Baranti Lake – theres the Lake , the hills and the lush green fields .
Watch the sunrise and the sunset , both spectacularly different .
Spend time with your loved ones .
Swim in the Lake .
Climb the watch tower by the Lake and enjoy the view , and the winds .
Walk up the hills and banter away under the shades of the trees .
Try off roading on the hills ( at your own risk ) .
Find a local guide and go jungle or hill trekking .
Walk around the villages and enjoy the laid-back village life .
Go to the local market and feel its vibrant energy .
Have good healthy food , freshly procured from the locality .
OUTSIDE BARANTI …
Go to the Muradi Hills which provides a different view of the Lake.
Visit GarhPanchkot or Biharinath Hills or Joychandi Pahar or Ayodhya Hills , all in close proximity .
WHERE TO EAT AT BARANTI
No restaurants as such .
The hotels and lodges serve food , mostly Bengali fare .
With fresh vegetables from the neighbouring fields and the markets , and fresh fish from the neighbouring lakes .
You may purchase/bring stuff and ask the hotel staff to get them cooked .
Drinks – its better to arrange/bring your own .
Even soft drinks are not readily available everywhere , Stay prepared .
TIME TO VISIT BARANTI
Anytime of the year .
Each season is different .
Even the summer , with its scorching heat , is comparatively pleasant , because of the immense jungle cover and the lakes and the hills , At most you might have to sleep away the midday but the cool evening breeze makes up for all the pain .
But best during Winter .
Second favourite seasons would be Autumn and Spring .
HOW TO TRAVEL WITHIN BARANTI OR FROM BARANTI
Public transport is not very frequent .
You may have to wait or ask the hotel people to arrange .
Its always better to make arrangement of your own .
Public transport is primarily auto rickshaw or trailer .
If you want a car , ask the hotel people to help .
